Efforts to Eradicate Corruption in Thai Government Agencies

According to the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI)—an annual metric published by the international NGO Transparency International that quantifies the perceived level of public sector corruption globally—Thailand scored 33 out of 100 in 2025. This places the country at 116th overall, marking its lowest ranking since 2012 [1]. For context, India ranked 91st with a score of 39 in 2025.

Meanwhile, on May 14, 2026, the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB) released a list of the top 10 government agencies with the highest bribe amounts per transaction, marking the first time such data has been made public [2].

During a press conference, a named Thai government agency pushed back against the JSCCIB's results, demanding to see the underlying data and evidence to support these claims [3].

With technical reviews by 20 OECD committees rapidly approaching as part of Thailand's bid for OECD membership, movements among key stakeholders to address these issues are intensifying.
