ในช่วงเข้าพรรษาของทุกปี อุบลราชธานีจะจัดงานแห่เทียน แม้ปีนี้จะเผชิญกับความขัดแย้งทางชายแดนกับกัมพูชา แต่กลับกลายเป็นศูนย์กลางของการเฉลิมฉลองทางวัฒนธรรมที่ยิ่งใหญ่ที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งของประเทศไทย จังหวัดอุบลราชธานีมีพรมแดนติดกับประเทศกัมพูชา

 

งานแห่เทียนเข้าพรรษา ในปี 2568 นี้ ยังคงจัดอย่างยิ่งใหญ่ ภายใต้แนวคิด “แสงแห่งธรรม ส่องใจไทยทั่วหล้า” เน้นการสืบสานศิลปวัฒนธรรม พุทธศาสนา และภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่นอย่างงดงาม

 

งานจะจัดขึ้นระหว่าง วันที่ 9–13 กรกฎาคม 2568 โดยมีไฮไลต์คือ ขบวนแห่เทียนพรรษาขนาดใหญ่แกะสลักอย่างวิจิตรบรรจง จากฝีมือช่างศิลป์ท้องถิ่น พร้อมการแสดงศิลปะพื้นบ้าน ฟ้อนรำแบบอีสาน และกิจกรรมทางศาสนาที่ชวนให้ผู้ร่วมงานได้ซาบซึ้งในคุณค่าทางจิตใจ

 

 

ประชาชนเฝ้ารอดูขบวนแห่เทียนกันอย่างมากมาย แม้สภาพอากาศจะค่อนข้างร้อน

 

และในงานนี้มีการประกวดต้นเทียนพรรษา หลายประเภท เช่น แกะสลัก ติดพิมพ์ ขนาดและสไตล์ต่าง ๆ แต่ไฮไลต์สำคัญคือ ประเภทแกะสลัก ที่มีความละเอียด และศิลป์โดดเด่น

 

ซึ่งในปีนี้รางวัล ชนะเลิศประเภทแกะสลัก ขนาดใหญ่ ได้แก่ วัดผาสุการาม อ.วารินชำราบ จ.อุบลราชธานี

 

 

 

กระบวนการแกะสลัก

1. เตรียมวัสดุ – ใช้ขี้ผึ้ง (beeswax) ก้อนใหญ่ผสมแท่งเทียน สร้างโครงภายในด้วยโครงไม้หรือวัสดุเบา
2. เริ่มแกะลวดลาย – ศิลปินใช้มีด อุปกรณ์แกะสลักมือ ลอก วางชั้น wax ทีละแผ่น
3. องค์ประกอบศิลป์ – แสดงเรื่องราวจากพุทธศาสนา มโหรสถ นิทานอีสาน หรือเทพจากเรื่องรามเกียรติ์
4. การทำงานร่วมกัน – ทั้งวัด โรงเรียน และชุมชนร่วมแรงสร้าง แถมบ้างครั้งยังมีศิลปินจากต่างประเทศมาช่วย

 

โดยงานแห่เทียนเข้าพรรษาเป็นประเพณีที่สะท้อนถึงความศรัทธาในพระพุทธศาสนาและความสามัคคีของชุมชนไทย นอกจากจะเป็นการถวายเทียนเพื่อใช้ในพรรษาแล้ว ยังช่วยอนุรักษ์ศิลปวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่นให้คงอยู่สืบไป

The Candle Festival 2025 will once again be held in spectacular fashion under the theme "The Light of Dhamma Illuminates All Thai Hearts", emphasizing the preservation of Buddhist traditions, local wisdom, and artistic heritage.

 

The festival will take place from July 9 to 13, 2025, featuring the highlight: a grand candle procession of intricately carved giant candles crafted by skilled local artisans. Visitors will also enjoy traditional Isan dance performances, folk art displays, and religious activities that inspire spiritual reflection and appreciation for cultural values.

Large crowds of people eagerly awaited the candle procession, despite the rather hot weather.

 

The festival also featured a candle sculpture contest in various categories, including carved, molded, and a variety of sizes and styles. However, the main highlight was the carved candle category, renowned for its intricate detail and outstanding artistic craftsmanship.

This year, the First Prize in the Large Carved Candle Category was awarded to Wat Phasukaram, located in Warinchamrap District, Ubon Ratchathani.

 

  

Candle Carving Process

1. Material Preparation – Large blocks of beeswax are mixed with candle sticks. An internal frame is built using wood or lightweight materials.
2. Carving the Designs – Artists use knives and hand tools to carve intricate patterns layer by layer, applying thin wax sheets onto the structure.
3. Artistic Elements – The sculptures often depict stories from Buddhism, traditional Isan folklore, royal ceremonies, or mythical figures from the Ramakien epic.
4. Collaborative Effort – Temples, schools, and local communities work together on the creations. In some years, international artists also join in the process.

 

The Candle Festival is a tradition that reflects the deep faith in Buddhism and the unity of Thai communities. Beyond being a religious offering, it plays a vital role in preserving local arts and cultural heritage for future generations.
