NCDs reduce Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) for Thais.

"The most common diseases Thais" and continuing to be among the leading causes of death in the country, are non-communicable diseases (NCDs), especially cancer, stroke, and ischemic heart disease, which consistently hold the top positions as serious illnesses in Thailand.

The disease groups causing the Disability-Adjusted Life Year (DALYs) are cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease, as well as cancer, which together account for 44% of the total disease burden.

 Moreover, stroke is the leading cause of death and DALYs in the country for both men and women, accounting for 17% and 18%, respectively. The majority of these Years of Life Lost due to premature death (YLL), rather than Years Lost due to Disability (YLD).

Furthermore, cardiovascular diseases show a clear upward trend in the elderly, especially stroke and ischemic heart disease.

Although the statistics on morbidity and mortality from NCDs are very high, NCDs are actually preventable because the main causes or risk factors stem from our own risky behaviors.
